| A “ Moment’s Notice” Poem
Words gathered at Edmondson Elementary, February 3, 2010
Poem written by Mark Rosoff
It was a Happy, Sad Day
I was sitting in the lunch room keeping my mouth clean
on a Tuesday, no a Monday in Georgia, or was it
Germany, or Mexico, or Texas;
no it was Colorado.
I heard sounds like a tomato in a mixing bowl playing
video games with chestnuts, coconuts, milk and turkey.
Maybe it was a excited chinchilla tiptoeing towards a surprise
in his house, no his playhouse.
He was nervous in a silly, excited way and still he was
scared, mad as if ghosts flying on a UFO made of
fruit roll-ups and twinkies doing demolition.
It felt like an explosion of peanut butter disintegrating
into plagarized transformers.
It sounded like fallen softballs hitting cats running on bells,
lots of bells.
I wasn’t jealous because everybody is not the same.
Everbody is nice like baby goats eating Irish walnuts.
It reminded me of something in this world.
I like monkeys but I heard clams
then I knew I was at Edmondson Elementary.
